A transformational leader, known for his experience in turnaround management, Gino R. Santorio was appointed Broward Health’s acting chief executive officer in November 2018. He oversees all operations for one of the nation’s largest public healthcare systems.
Santorio joined Broward Health in September 2017 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. In that role, he established significant changes that have positively impacted the stability of the healthcare system, overseeing nearly $1.2 billion in operating revenue and more than 62,000 inpatient admissions during fiscal year 2017.
Santorio has helped the system save more than $31 million in contract renegotiations, operational improvements and a reduction in labor costs, and led two major capital improvement projects – the new four-story, 110,000 square-foot patient tower at Broward Health Coral Springs and the expansion and renovation of the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital at Broward Health Medical Center. Santorio is also an advocate in the community, serving as a member of the Broward Health Foundation Board of Directors and strong supporter of the Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center.
Before joining Broward Health, Santorio served as senior vice president and chief executive officer for Jackson North Medical Center and vice president and chief operating officer for Jackson Memorial Hospital. He has also served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer/hospital compliance officer at Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Spring Hill, Florida, and assistant chief financial officer at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Santorio has a master’s degree in public administration from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University of Albany in New York, a bachelor’s degree in business leadership from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, where he graduated magna cum laude, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), a professional certification sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Santorio also spent a semester abroad at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.
