Shane Strum was appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Healthcare System October 2024. With a legacy of public service spanning nearly three decades, Strum also serves at Chief Executive Officer of Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  One of the nation’s 10 largest public healthcare systems with an operational budget of $1.2 billion and more than 8,200 employees.

A native of Broward County, Strum is a recognized leader with decades of executive experience. He has led initiatives that have lowered costs of prescription drugs, expanded telehealth services, improved transparency and quality in healthcare, and increased awareness of mental health and substance abuse issues throughout the state.

Previously, Strum served as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ chief of staff and led the Governor’s staff in implementing a $90 billion budget, overseeing 20 state agencies with more than 100,000 employees, gubernatorial appointments, and cabinet affairs. He also collaborated closely with Florida’s federal partners, healthcare providers, hospitals, local governments, community leaders, and private businesses to facilitate Florida’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Strum is no stranger to MHS, prior to his work with the state, Strum served as senior vice president at Memorial Healthcare System, where he was part of an executive team that managed more than 15,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $2.4 billion. He also oversaw Memorial’s strategic planning, marketing, community relations and global health functions. During his tenure, Strum’s accomplishments included growing social and digital platforms to enhance the healthcare system’s reputation, establishing additional lines of revenue, developing a partnership with Moffitt Cancer Center, and collaborating on state and federal regulatory issues. Before he joined Memorial’s executive team, Strum served on the South Broward Hospital District Board for several years, including two terms as chairman.

In addition to his healthcare experience, Strum has exceled in higher education, having served as vice chancellor of Keiser University and director of corporate and government relations at Nova Southeastern University.

Strum is deeply committed to serving the local community and has sat on numerous boards throughout his career, including Broward College Foundation, Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, Florida TaxWatch, and the Broward Sheriff’s Foundation. He is also a founding board member of the Young Entrepreneurship Council for Huizenga School of Business, and former chairman of the Florida Community Health Network.

Strum earned his Master of Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and his Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Alabama.
