Michael D. Holmes
MICHAEL D. HOLMES, MSA serves as UF Health’s senior vice president and Greater Gainesville regional president.
In this role, he is responsible for ensuring exceptional performance across the region by aligning operational excellence with the strategic priorities of UF Health and the University of Florida. He leads efforts to deliver safe, high-quality patient care, optimize the use of resources and meet administrative and financial goals. Holmes also works in close partnership with other UF Health leaders to advance the health system’s multifaceted mission of patient care, education, research and community service.
UF Health Shands and the other Greater Gainesville regional hospitals are a corner stone of the UF Health system, with 1,149 beds, more than 10,200 employee sand a medical staff exceeding 1,500 providers. Before joining UF Health, Holmes served as executive vice president of Operation sand chief operating officer at Yale New Haven Hospital, one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious hospitals. There, he oversaw a 1,600-bed system with a $5 billion annual revenue and a workforce of more than 14,000 employees and 5,000 medical staff.
With over 35 years of senior leadership experience, Holmes has held executive roles at several of the country’s leading multi-hospital Catholic health systems, including Trinity Health, Ascension Health and Franciscan Health. He is widely recognized for his strategic vision, operational expertise and steadfast commitment to quality and accountability. Holmes earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Administration from Indiana University and a Master of Science in Administration from the University of Notre Dame’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the National Association of Healthcare Executives, demonstrating his dedication to ongoing professional development and industry leadership.

Mr. Holmes’ oversight includes UF Health’s flagship teaching hospital UF Health Shands Hospital and six specialty hospitals: UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital; UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital; UF Health Heart & Vascular Hospital; UF Health Neuromedicine Hospital; UF Health Shands Psychiatric Hospital; and UF Health Rehab Hospital.
